SCOUT OUTDOOR ESSENTIALS

Pocketknife (if you have totin chit) *

First aid kit (& your own medication)

Moleskin, Advil or Tylenol, check

  Handbook

Extra clothing

Rain gear (never leave this home)

  For summer 1-2 night trips the cheap

  very thin plastic is OK. For longer trips

  you should have a nice coated nylon

  poncho or jacket/pants

Water bottle or camelback

Duct tape (can wrap around water bottle)

Small flashlight (with good batteries) LED preferred

Trail food

Matches or lighter

Sunscreen

Map/compass (maps often provided)

 

FOR SLEEPING

Troop Tent/stakes/poles

Sleeping bag

Sleeping pad, pad repair kit (if Thermarest)

Ground cloth

 

EATING

Stove/fuel (Troop supplied)

Pot (1 per food group)

Large spoon for cooking

Spoon/knife/fork

Bowl

Cup

Scrubber/soap (small)

Food – break down out of packages into

 Ziploc bags, keep directions inside

 Ziploc. Combine all ingredients for one

 dish into larger Ziploc bag (e.g.,

 “milkman” dry milk, cheddar cheese

 powder, & macaroni for mac ‘n cheese)

Trash bag

Large water containers-optional, but a

 collapsible container is nice in camp.

Water purifier  (troop provided)

Bear Canister  - if Nat'l Park area

Small soap or soap in small plastic tube

Toilet paper in 2 Ziploc bags

 (wilderness areas require us to remove TP)

Repair kit (needle, thread, safety pins)

Knit cap

Swimsuit

BSA Field Uniform (like meetings)

Long sleeved shirt

Pants/shorts

Socks (1 pair for each day)

Sock liners

Shoes for hiking

Camp shoes*

Hat with brim

Sweatshirt and windbreaker

Additional clothing depending on area visited

Drivers should bring extra car key, phone charger in car,

Leaders should bring Sunday service materials, permit or reservation paper, Techno soap for poison oak, 2-way radios
